At Dataquest, one of our long-term goals is to make data science skills more affordable and accessible to everyone. After the success of our first scholarship pilot program, which was focused on underrepresented genders in data science, we're pleased to announce that we're now opening applications for a broader financial aid scholarship program.
Applications for this program are open to anyone who's interested, although we ask that you please only apply if you have genuine need for financial aid. Our resources are limited, and we want to make sure that this program helps people who might not otherwise have the chance to study data science.
Successful applicants will get:

Dataquest Scholarship FAQ
How will you assess applications?
We'll be looking at a combination of factors, including the applicant's self-described financial situation and their answers about how receiving the scholarship would affect them. Our primary goal with this scholarship program is to provide Dataquest access to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to study data science.
We will only be assessing the content of the answers, so we aren't worried about things like grammatical mistakes or spelling errors. All we ask is that you please answer honestly.
What are my chances of being accepted?
This depends entirely on how many people apply, which is difficult for us to predict. Our previous scholarship received more than 1,500 applications, and the potential applicant pool for this scholarship is broader.
Dataquest is a bootstrapped startup that's funded entirely by student subscriptions, so our resources are limited, but we want to help as many students as possible, and we will accept as many applicants as we can!
How will I know I was accepted?
Successful applicants will be notified via email (so make sure that the email you submit on the application form is correct, and that messages from Dataquest aren't being sent to your spam folder).
We'll notify all accepted applicants by Monday, September 16, 2019.
What exactly will scholarship students receive?
If you're selected for a scholarship, you will receive three months of free access to all of Dataquest's courses, paths, and projects. Every course and path you see listed on our directory page, and all of the new courses we add over the scholarship period, will be fully accessible to you.
Your access will start September 23, 2019 and end December 18, 2019. If you complete at least one full course prior to December 11, 2019, you will receive an extension with an additional three months of access. You will also get access to our student community.
Note that this is slightly different from a Premium subscription, as it does not include access to some Premium features like career coaching and Premium support priority. We've decided not to include these features in the scholarship because it will allow us to accept a significantly higher number of applicants and, we believe, have a greater overall impact.
When does this scholarship run?
If you're selected, your free access will begin September 23, 2019 and end on December 18, 2019. However, if you complete at least one full course prior to December 11, 2019, you will receive an extension with an additional three months of free access.
What if I'm not selected? Will there be other scholarships?
If you're not selected, don't worry — we do plan to offer additional scholarships at some point in the future, and you will be welcome to apply again.
In the scholarship application, you'll be able to opt-in to future scholarship notifications, and signing up for a free Dataquest account will also put you on our newsletter list, which would ensure you're notified about future scholarship programs. (A free account also gives you access to several of our introductory courses in Python and R, so you can get a jump-start on your data science learning journey).
I don't need a scholarship myself. How can I help?
The best thing you can do is to share this link with anyone you think might be interested before the application deadline on September 3 end-of-day UTC. You can also help spread the word about this opportunity by sharing it on your social media channels.
I received a scholarship during Dataquest's previous scholarship program. Can I still apply to this one?
